Ministry of Tourism to honor 112 photographers

Celebrating Muscat Arab Tourism Capital 2012 photos depict natural and cultural attractions of the city — Under the auspices of Dr Abdulmunim Mansour al Hasani, Minister of Information; and with the attendance of Ahmad bin Nasser al Mahrazi, Minister of Tourism; the ministry of tourism will present awards to the winning entries of the photo competition organized by the ministry as part of celebrating Muscat Arab Tourism Capital 2012 at  the Crown Plaza Hotel tomorrow.
Minister of Information will honor 112 photographers who excelled in capturing the best images that depict and
highlight the wonderful features of Muscat in the three categories of the competition. The photo competition received large number of entries from professional and amateur photographers. All photographers, from inside and outside Oman, participated by sending breathtaking images captured in their cameras. The competition received 3350 entries from 355  photographers; reflecting natural, cultural and historical attractions and features of Muscat.
The competition was divided into three categories; each one under a different theme: Muscat Landscapes; Muscat’s architecture — old and new; and the third was People and visitors’ experiences in Muscat — souqs, entertainment, events etc. The first theme has attracted the biggest number of entries; while the second and third categories received about 1000 entries each.
Maitha bint Saif  al Mahroqi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Tourism lauded the photographers — professional and amateur, residents, visitors, tourists and Omanis for the large number of participation. “This big turnout reflects a positive response from Omanis, tourists and residents of the competition. Also, it reflects extent all these people adore the vibrant and rich attractions of Muscat”, she asserted.
“The ministry of tourism, through this competition, aims to enrich tourism sector in the Sultanate; images are very important elements for promoting and marketing Omani destinations and attractions”, Maitha al Mahruqi added. The Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism forwarded thanks to all participants, jury panel members and everyone who contributed to the success of organizing and launching this competition.
