Wilayat Al Buraimi lies in the north-western corner of the Sultanate on the borders of the United Arab Emirates, approximately 375 km from Muscat.

Tourist attractions in Al Buraimi include a number of castles and forts including the recently restored fort of Al Khandaq, the emblem of the wilayat. Considered an exemplary model of a strategic defence system, the fort is well worth a visit. Another worthwhile port of call is the Al Hillah Fort, which has also been restored by the Ministry of National Heritage and Culture.

Farming is the main profession here, relying heavily on water from wells and aflaj for irrigation.
